About Brooke
Dr. Brooke Lawler is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Richmond, VA who earned her PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Regent University. She specializes in supporting adults navigating trauma, anxiety, stress, chronic health conditions, and major life transitions. She is committed to helping clients understand their experiences, strengthen coping, and build meaningful, sustainable change.
Dr. Lawler has focused on trauma‑informed care since graduate school, beginning her training with the VA’s Military Sexual Trauma (MST) program, where she earned certification in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). She continued this work during her internship at a federal correctional facility for women, providing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). She later worked extensively with incarcerated men who had committed sexual offenses, deepening her understanding of trauma, addiction, rehabilitation, and the complex intersections between mental health and the justice system.
She has experience working with LGBTQI clients, including supporting individuals navigating gender transition–related concerns, identity exploration, and the unique stressors associated with healthcare, family systems, and broader social contexts. She is committed to providing affirming, inclusive, and culturally responsive care.
In 2020, Dr. Lawler transitioned into Health Psychology, expanding her expertise in integrated care and behavioral medicine. She uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support clients in improving both mental and physical health outcomes. She also serves as a Prolonged Exposure (PE) training consultant, helping primary care teams increase access to evidence‑based trauma treatments.
